This is Torani's Almond Syrup.

In case you're wondering (we were) - it's pronounced OHR-ZHAT. Torani Orgeat Syrup is one of Torani's original flavours. It is an old English word related to the Italian "orzata", meaning almond. Orgeat is actually a flavour comprised of Almonds, Rose Water, Orange Flower Water and Sugar.

Decades of experience create the distinct aroma and sweet nutty flavour of "Ye Olde Orgeat". It's perhaps most famously known as an ingredient in a Mai Tai.

Ingredients

Pure Cane Sugar, Water, Natural Flavours, Fractioned Coconut Oil, Ester Gum, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate (to preserve freshness), Potassium Sorbate (to preserve freshness).

Guess what? We have a low carb version - the Torani Sugar Free Almond flavour. Could this be more confusing? We don't think so.

Orgeat is something that I see a lot in old cocktail recipes and until now I'd never been able to find some. It's kind of an acquired taste on it's own, but in an alcoholic drink it brings an exotic flavor that you can't quite put a finger on.

We bought this syrup for use in Mai Tais and other tiki drinks. We specifically wanted an almond syrup that doesn't contain any actual nuts due to having kids with nut allergies in the house (otherwise we would make homemade). At first I was a little disappointed in the strong "fake" almond flavour which was overpowering enough to throw the drinks out of balance. I then tried cutting the Torani orgeat with half 2:1 simple syrup in my cocktail recipes, and am now really enjoying it. I would recommend this if you can't or don't want to make your own orgeat.

I discovered this syrup in Maui last summer and have been using it ever since for mixing an authentic Mai Thai cocktail. Works great and tastes so much better than using the pre-mixed mai thai mix.
