Espresso Pods - Another Option for Single Serve

The use of espresso pods is on the rise within the home, the office and even in restaurants. While these disks are gaining popularity among regular coffee drinkers and espresso aficionados alike, some still don't know what these popular pods are.

Espresso pods offer a fresh take on espresso brewing. It simplifies the brewing process so that anyone, even someone brand new to espresso brewing, can make their own cup with just the push of a button.

Espresso pods, also known as Easy Serving Espresso (ESE) pods, are individual pouches made of two fine layers of filter paper. Inside is a single serving or double serving of packed espresso with each serving of coffee measuring seven grams. They are typically 45 millimetres in diameter.

These guidelines were established by The Consortium for the Development and the Protection of the E.S.E. Standard.

Creating a standard design for all espresso pods, regardless of brand, allows for convenience and flexibility when using various espresso pod brands with various espresso pod machines. No matter what the brand, all espresso pods are compatible with all non-capsule espresso machines.

For best results however, it is recommended that a machine designed especially for ESE pods be used.

One should note that ESE pods may be used with any type of espresso machine, as long as it is not a capsule-based machine. To enjoy a cup of espresso made using ESE pods, all one has to do is follow these 3 steps:

  1. Insert the pod into the filter basket of an espresso machine or use a brewer designed specifically for ESE pods;
  2. Add water to the designated water reservoir; and
  3. Press the button to begin brewing.

There is no need to pull or pump the shot of espresso, no need to worry about bar pressure or tamping, and there is no need to worry about grinding the coffee beans correctly. All of these details are taken care of with espresso pods. In a few quick minutes, a tasty cup of espresso will be yours to enjoy, even if you have no previous training or espresso brewing experience.

The Benefits of Espresso Pods

The invention and standardization of espresso pods has made it possible for anyone to enjoy a cup of espresso from the convenience of their home or office. Its advantages are numerous and have made it a very popular choice for personal brewing.

Convenience

Since espresso pods require little to no training, it is easy for literally anyone to make their own cup of espresso. This easy brewing brings the drink out from behind specialty store counters and into one's own home or office. It has removed several steps from the espresso brewing process making it also faster to brew espresso than ever before.

Compatibility

Adding to its convenience, ESE pods are much more user-friendly than other methods of espresso brewing since their design is standardized. This means that individuals do not have to worry if their machine at home or at the office will work with their ESE pods, highlighting another benefit of espresso pods; their portability. Due to their size and compatibility with most espresso machines, espresso pods are easily to transport.

Maintenance

Espresso pods and espresso pod machines require significantly less maintenance than other espresso brewing methods. Since the grinds are pre-measured and self contained within the pod, there is very little clean-up that is required. After use, the pod may be tossed in the garbage or the compost bin. There are no messy grinds to worry about and the likelihood of damage to the espresso machine due to grind build-up is far less.

Espresso pods are a great way to easily and quickly enjoy a cup of delicious espresso any time. They have a long shelf life, are easy to transport and are compatible with most espresso devices. ESE pods require minimal skill level and produce consistent results.

Easy Espresso, Done Right

Its as easy as 1,2,3! Pop a pod in the machine, add the water and press the button! No need to grind the beans. The grind is done to an exact standard set by the E.S.E Consortium. No need to measure the coffee grinds, as this is also taken care of for you. You simply add an Espresso pod to your single serve espresso machine, brew, and enjoy! It doesn't get any better than this! If you love espresso, and you love convenience, this brew at home method offers a perfect cup, every time!
